The Rise of Nationalism and Imperialism

As Napoleon died, he left behind a stir of nationalism in many European states. Germany united to form the beginnings of a German Empire. (Esler) As time went by, Germany only grew stronger and Italy united its states. The rise of nationalism began to threaten the old empires that were already growing weaker. Austria decided to form a duel monarchy with Hungary to form the Austria-Hungarian Empire. When nationalism movements still rise, the Ottoman Empire collapses. Led by a strong sense of nationalism, Russia began to revolt and change into a communist government. (Esler)

Great Britain increased imperialistic rule over the small colonies it conquered. (Esler) The colonies had resources that helped Britain industrialize. Other European countries also stake claims in the regions of Africa and China. (Esler)
